A few years ago, I had the opportunity to go on safari in southern Africa. One of the greatest thrills was going out at night looking for predators on the prowl: lions, leopards, hyenas....As we drove through the darkness, though, our spotlight occasionally lit up a smaller hunter – a slender, tawny feline, faintly spotted or striped. The glare would catch the small cat for a moment before it darted back into the shadows. More at The Conversation ➜

You weren't a fancy dog
with fur of dark grey,
but you were our dog,
with us you would stay.
You brought us much joy,
for all of 17 years,
your leaving brought many tears.
The happiness you brought,
was the best there was.
There was no reason,
it was just because,
you were the sweetest story
in this short life of yours,
living with us forever,
your Soul in the Stars.

A Small Little Dog

I am a small little dog.
A Shih Tzu, to you.
My name is Pepe'
I love what I do.
That's to play fetch.
If you'll play with me,
I'll play for hours
And do it for free.
I was out in the street,
Where I'm not supposed to be,
Got hit by a Lincoln,
Much bigger than me.
My parents do take
Good care, you see,
So a trip to the Vet,
Who checked me out,
Then back home,
Where the family did provide,
All the love that I needed.
As for the Lincoln, it drove away,
and me, I'm back chasing
Balls thrown my way.

(Ode to my late grand dog
who is no longer with us.)

The time following surgery for your dog can be confusing and distressing for you both.  Depending on what the surgery was, there will be different requirements in terms of wound care, recovery and rest time, and the medications or supportive therapies they may need post-surgery................ Click to read the guide from Your Dog Advisor which offers some practical general guidance, but make sure that you always follow any advice given by your vet post surgery.
